DHL Capitalizes on AI Infrastructure Demand with Major U.S. Expansion

A significant strategic push into the logistics of artificial intelligence infrastructure is underway at DHL. The company’s Supply Chain division has announced plans to establish ten new specialized warehouse facilities across the United States. This initiative is designed to add more than 650,000 square meters of capacity by the end of 2026, specifically engineered to meet the intricate needs of data center operators and cloud service providers.

Targeting a Clear Market Gap

The expansion is a direct response to a identified market opportunity. Internal research conducted by DHL reveals a striking disparity: while 85% of data center operators express a preference for a single, comprehensive end-to-end logistics partner, only 43% currently have such an arrangement in place. The company’s latest move aims to bridge this gap directly.

These are not conventional storage facilities. The service offering includes specialized rack pre-configuration, high-touch “white-glove” handling for sensitive equipment, and customized transport solutions facilitated through the DHL Global Forwarding division. The goal is to provide complete supply chain coverage for critical IT hardware, spanning from initial planning phases through to final on-site deployment.

Strategic Focus on a Core Region

The choice to concentrate this initial build-out in North America is highly strategic. This region is home to more than 40% of the world’s data centers, making it the single largest market for hyperscale cloud providers and colocation operators. DHL is positioning itself to serve these very clients, whose logistical requirements are expected to surge with each successive wave of AI infrastructure development.

Company leadership has indicated that this North American project is likely to serve as a template for similar investments in other key global regions. The initiative is not an isolated effort but rather the first phase of a broader, worldwide rollout strategy tailored to the booming AI sector.
