Luke Ross is a tremendous Star Wars artist at large, beyond simply drawing an amazing Yoda. There are a lot of wookiees in this issue, and Ross does a fine job making them distinct from Chewbacca. I get a little bit of a Planet of the Apes vibe, which works for me.

As a longtime Star Wars geek, I appreciate Houser incorporating the feud between wookiees and Trandoshans into this story. That’s been a part of Star Wars lore for a long time, dating back to a feud between Chewbacca and Bossk.

For Count Dooku, this issue’s artistic team do a nice job evoking a young Christopher Lee, all while giving him a look (i.e. hair and beard style) he apparently never adopted in his real life.

By virtue of a young Dooku being present, this story might make a nice companion to some of those Tales of the Jedi shorts that came out on Disney+ awhile back.

Luke Ross draws an absolutely amazing Yoda. The level of detail he injects into the character is stellar.

I’m a big Dave Wachter fan from his days on TMNT. So seeing him work on Ms. Marvel and Venom (along with a couple other select heroes) is a treat. Not surprisingly, he and Erick Arciniega turn in great work here. Great closing page, too.

This is also the best of these Ms. Marvel team-up issues we’ve been getting. I like the way Jody Houser writes Dylan Brock as Venom, and his interplay with Kamala is fun.

The trouble with this story so far is that Ms. Marvel only has one issue with each different hero. So there isn’t necessarily time to do any substantive character work. And that’s the big selling point of a story like this, right? To see the characters rub up against one another…figuratively speaking.

Still, Ibraim Roberson and Erick Arcineiga give us some really fun, dynamic art. So at least our title characters look good as they take on a massive pack of robotic rats.

As the cover kind of indicates, this issue is more like Ms. Marvel & X-Men, as opposed to just Ms. Marvel & Wolverine. That’s a little disappointing for me, as I was hoping to see more of their personalities clashing.

What’s more, all these heroes don’t really do anything other than swat flies. Sure, they’re big robotic flies. And there a lot of them. But still.

It looks like this is the first installment of a multi-parter that sees Ms. Marvel work with a variety of Marvel heroes. So maybe they’re playing the long game with this one.
